Worth mentioning: none of them is a sequel to Broken Tales. That’s something we’d be interested in exploring after Broken Tales is safely in your hands. So instead, this is all new stuff from the same team that brought you this campaign (plus some great additions) at various stages of completion.

You do need to complete the survey even if you only pledged for the Broken Tales digital files.
New stuff to look at!
First of all, we did print some test Hunter Sheets to estimate the vinyl jackets’ size correctly. Unfortunately, I’ve been provided only with this picture, taken in a room lit only by 18th-century candles. My partner in crime, Luca, however, assures me they feel very sexy to the touch.

Secondly, Daniel has been submitting a steady stream of artwork for the game. He’s currently focusing on Dark Presences: I’m happy to introduce you to Hua Mulan, The Sword Demon, and Sinbad, the Journeyman of a Thousand Seas, bot included in the Core Book.
More Hunters in The Broken Ones
So yeah, as we’re writing the books, we decided to make some changes to The Broken Ones. The good news: you get FIVE extra Hunters. The bad news: none! The new Hunters will replace the five “Special Treasures” we mentioned in the campaign, but these treasures are still included in the book! The change was primarily made so that both vinyl jackets are reserved for Hunters.
The five new Hunters are:
Bloodwhite (inspired by Snow White)
The Small Golem (inspired by Pinocchio)
The Little Match Girl (you know this one)
Sharazade (already introduced in one of the unlocked Scenarios)
Hatta Carter (inspired by the Hatter from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
Things are progressing more or less as planned, even during summer holidays. We use a tracker to know where we are with development. In short:
Core Book: 57% complete
The Broken Ones: 34% complete
Stretch Goals: 36% (Core Book Stretch Goals) complete and 33% (The Broken Ones Stretch Goals) complete.
Note that translations are not included in the completion rate; we’re talking only about content development.
Alberto has already written all Hunters, all non-guest Dark Presences, the most difficult chapters of the Core Book (Character Creation and Scenario Creation), and the OSR rules for The Broken Ones (which, to be honest, are so good they could be their separate game).
Most of the leftover work is on Scenarios – we’re leaving this last because we needed first to nail the rules for them. Also, Scenarios need to be playtested, so they’re bound to take a while.
I’m also happy to confirm that I received a draft of The Returning Wolf Dark Presence from Peter Chiykowski, and it’s fantastic.

Nuova roba da vedere!
Prima di tutto, abbiamo fatto delle stampe test per le Schede Cacciatore per stimare la dimensione corretta delle custodie vinile. Sfortunatamente, mi è stata girata solo questa foto, scattata in una stanza illuminata dalla flebile luce di candele del diciottesimo secolo. Il mio partner di TWA Luca, nonostante tutto, mi assicura di come siano molto sexy al tatto.

In secondo luogo, Daniel sta producendo stabilmente, e al momento si sta focalizzando sulle Oscure Presenze. Sono felice di presentarvi Hua Mulan, Il Demone della Spada, e Sinbad, Il Viaggiatore dei Mille Mari, ambedue inclusi nel Libro Base.
Più Cacciatori in The Broken Ones
Durante la scrittura dei libri abbiamo deciso di effettuare qualche cambiamento a The Broken Ones. La buona notizia: vi arriveranno CINQUE Cacciatori extra. La cattiva notizia: non c’è! I nuovi Cacciatori rimpiazzeranno i “Tesori Speciali” menzionati in campagna, che però troverete comunque nel libro. Il cambio è stato deciso principalmente per avere ambedue i vinili dedicati alle Schede Cacciatore.
I cinque nuovi Cacciatori sono:
Biancasangue (ispirata da Biancaneve)
Il Piccolo Golem (ispirato a Pinocchio)
La Piccola Fiammiferaia (già sapete a chi è ispirata)
Sharazade (che abbiamo già introdotto come avversario in uno degli Scenari sbloccati in campagna)
Hatta Carter (ispirato al Cappellaio da Le Avventure di Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie)
Le cose stanno procedendo più o meno come pianificato anche durante la stagione estiva. Per tracciare a che punto siamo con lo sviluppo, usiamo un sistema di tracking per ogni sezione dei libri. In breve:
Libro base: completo al 57%
The Broken Ones: completo al 34%
Stretch Goals: completi al 36% (quelli del Libro Base) e completi al 33% (quelli di The Broken Ones).
Alberto ha già scritto tutti i Cacciatori, le sue Oscure Presenze, i capitoli più impegnativi del Libro Base (Creazione del Personaggio e Creazione degli Scenari) e le regole OSR per The Broken Ones (che detto fra noi, son talmente belle che avremmo potuto farci un gioco a parte).
Buona parte di quel che resta da fare riguarda gli Scenari, che sono stati lasciati in fondo perché prima era importante confermare le regole per crearli. Gli Scenari vanno anche playtestati, e per forza di cose ci vorrà un po’ prima di chiuderli.
Sono anche felice di confermare che ho ricevuto la bozza de Il Lupo che Ritorna, l’Oscura Presenza di Peter Chiykowski, ed è eccezionale.
Un nuovo Actual Play
Alberto è stato ospite di Fumble, dove ha giocato il secondo Atto (autoconclusivo) di OZena la Sofferente e Disperata, uno degli Scenari di Broken Tales sbloccati in campagna. Lo potete vedere qui (ma occhio agli spoiler):

Backerkit survey update
88% of you have already completed the pledge manager survey on Backerkit. Thank you! If this is your case, you’re all set to receive our rewards (but please remember that we will withdraw funds in early 2022 – you’ve not been charged yet).

If, for some reason, you think you don’t need to do it, allow me to reiterate that YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR REWARD IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE SURVEY. I’m not screaming, or maybe I am, but just internally. Please complete the survey now, so we know 1) in which language we should deliver your reward, 2) where to, if you have physical items included, and 3) we have all the payment info we need if there are shipping charges involved. Please complete it now and do not wait, or you will forget.

Order’s Treasure: Tetsubo of the Oni
In update #31 we’ve shown you an example of Dark Presence; it’s now the turn to show you one of the most exotic Order’s Treasures, the Tetsubo of the Oni, inspired by Japanese Mythology.
Treasures can be used by the Hunters as temporary Gifts – that is, if they can get the Keepers to borrow them!
A final note: you might have noticed that we made some small changes to the terminology: Position and Defense Rolls are now Position and Defense Checks. We think this helps clarifying that rolls are not always involved, for example when your Basic Successes are sufficient or you spend Soma to overcome an obstacle. Thoughts?
Late Pledge?
Many have reached out after the end of the campaign asking if there’s still a chance to get the Broken Tales book. We know that some months are better than others budget-wise, so the answer is YES, WE WILL HAVE A LATE PLEDGE!
After much soul searching and feet dragging, mostly done by me, we have decided to gate our Discord channels by language. This was done to avoid unnecessary notifications from channels you are not able to read. When you join our server, head over to #start-here and pick the languages you speak clicking on the relative emoji. Doing this will open up the appropriate channels. If you’re already a member, most channels will be now hidden until you pick at least a language. You can always revise this choice if you decide you can actually speak ALL server languages.

Tesoro dell’Ordine: il Tetsubo dell’Oni
Nell’update #31 vi abbiamo mostrato un esempio di Oscura Presenza; è ora il turno di un Tesoro dell’Ordine, e debuttiamo con l’esotico Testubo dell’Oni, ispirato alla mitologia giapponese.
I Tesori possono essere usati dai Cacciatori come Doni temporanei – sempre che riescano a farseli prestare dai Custodi, ovviamente!
In molti ci hanno contattato dopo la fine della campagna per chiedere se ci saranno altre occasioni per ottenere le ricompense di Broken Tales. Siamo coscienti di aver lanciato assieme ad altri progetti GdR interessanti e di come in certi mesi il budget sia più stringato che in altri, quindi la risposta è SÌ, CI SARÀ UN LATE PLEDGE.

Cambiamenti a Discord
Dopo un sacco di riflessioni abbiamo deciso di separare i canali di Discord per lingua, per evitare notifiche da canali in una lingua che non potete leggere. Quano vi unirete al nostro server, andate su #start-here e scegliete le lingue che parlate con l’emoji appropriata. In questo modo vi si apriranno i canali in quella lingua specifica. Se siete già dei nostri, ma non avete una lingua assegnata, molti canali vi saranno preclusi fino a quando non effettuerete l’operazione di cui sopra. Potete sempre rivedere questa scelta e decidere che, a conti fatti, vi interessino sia i canali in Italiano che quelli in Inglese.

Q: Tell me again, what’s this pledge manager thingy?
It’s a platform run by Backerkit that allows us to:
Determine in which language we should send you the materials
Determine how should we credit you in the Core Book
Determine what extra items we should add to your order (for example, the prints)
Upgrade your pledge
Calculate your shipping expenses based on parcel total weight
Send you your Digital rewards (PDF files)
Q: It doesn’t look like funds are being withdrawn now. Why?
You can add items and determine your shipping expenses now. When you add your credit card on Backerkit, what you’re doing in practice is telling us: “Hey, when you want to get paid, take my hard-earned money from here”. We will withdraw the funds in early 2022: you don’t have to pay anything now (bureaucracy-wise, that’s the most efficient way to do it). You will be able to change your order until then, and we will warn you when the time for withdrawing is close.
However, we’re asking for two favors:
Make sure you are adding a valid credit card there, and if it’s expiring before 2022 change it when it’s time. Backerkit will let you know if that’s the case. If it’s prepaid, add enough credit to it.
Don’t add items you’re unsure you can afford now. You might have to cancel them later on, and that makes our production projections a lot harder. You can always add them later when you’re sure.
Q: I might move before the project ships. What should I do?
Nothing, for the time being. You’ll be able to change your shipping address until the very end. We’ll warn you before we lock all addresses for shipping.
Q: My card doesn’t seem to work with Stripe!
Backerkit uses Stripe to process payments, same as Kickstarter. If your card doesn’t work for whatever reason, and you’re sure your card is legit, consider the following options:
1) ask a family member/friend if you can use theirs “just this once plz <3”. Remember that cards will be charged later.
2) if you’re still having problems, get in touch at [email protected], and we’ll figure something out (this option adds significant overhead for us, so use only if you’re experiencing utter despair).

D: Puoi ripetermi a cosa serve sto pledge manager?
È una piattaforma gestita da Backerkit che ci permette di:

D: Mi pare di capire che non dovremo pagare adesso. Perché?
Potete aggiungere articoli e stimare le spese adesso. Quando aggiungete la vostra carta di credito su Backerkit, in sostanza ci state dicendo: “Quando volete essere pagati, prendete i fondi da qui.”Ritireremo i fondi a inizio 2022: per ora non dovrete pagare nulla (è più facile gestire la burocrazia in questo modo). Fino a quel momento potrete cambiare l’ordine, e vi avvertiremo prima del ritiro dei fondi.
Vi chiediamo però due favori:
Assicuratevi di aggiungere una carta di credito valida, e se scade prima del 2022 cambiatela quando Backerkit vi avvertirà (perché lo farà). Se è una prepagata, aggiungete i fondi necessari ora (la mancanza di fondi è di gran lunga la prima causa di pagamenti falliti).
Non mettetevi nel carrello articoli che non siete sicuri di potervi permettere. Potreste doverli cancellare più avanti, e questo rende le nostre proiezioni poco affidabili. Questo vale soprattutto per gli articoli a numero limitato – ne abbiamo pochi, quindi non teneteli fermi sapendo di non avere il budget. Potete sempre modificare il vostro ordine più avanti. Ricordatevi che verranno spediti assieme a Broken Tales. Se li volete prima, acquistateli dal nostro store.
D: Probabilmente mi devo trasferire prima delle spedizioni. Che faccio?
Non ci sono problemi, potrete cambiare il vostro indirizzo fino a ridosso delle spedizioni.
D: La mia carta non funziona con Stripe!
Backerkit usa Stripe per processare i pagamenti, come Kickstrater. Se la vostra carta non funziona per qualche motivo, e siete sicuri sia legittima, vi offriamo un paio di opzioni:
Chiedete ad un membro della famiglia / amico di prestarvi la sua “solo per questa volta giuro <3”. Ricordatevi però che i fondi saranno prelevati più avanti.
Se non riuscite a risolvere, contattateci a [email protected] e qualcosa ci inventiamo. Questa opzione ci costringe a dei magheggi abbastanza elaborati che ci distraggono dal fare giochi, quindi riservatela solo a casi di disperazione nera.

Before diving in, remember that you can talk with us daily on our Discord server, where users are already exchanging ideas on Hunters and other characters they want to create for Broken Tales.
Backerkit (almost ready!)
I spent the last few days configuring our pledge manager, run by Backerkit. Many of you are already familiar with it because it’s one of the most used, but to summarize you’ll soon receive a link to a survey that will be used to determine:
In which language you want to receive the materials
How should we credit you in the Core Book
What items do you want to add to your order (for example, the prints)
If you want to upgrade your pledge
What are your shipping expenses based on weight
Backerkit will also be used to distribute the Digital rewards
However, before moving forward, we’ll do a Smoke Test. The Smoke Test is a small-scale test of the surveys (only 5% of you will receive them) to make sure everything works as intended.
As math suggests, 95% of you WILL NOT receive the surveys now, so just sit back and relax. If you’re one of the lucky 5%, follow the link in the email you’ll receive, and please try to fill the survey to the best of your abilities (there’s a generic how-to guide here, if you need one).
Before sending out the survey to all, I will evaluate how the Smoke Test goes and what questions come up and then compile a Broken Tales pledge manager guide if I see we need one.
PS: I will repeat this later on, but anyway we WILL NOT charge credit cards now for shipping expenses and added items, and won’t until early 2022. This also means you’ll be able to change your order until then. There are many reasons for this, mostly tax-related, but before locking the surveys for good we’ll remind you.
Dark Presences, an example
The process for the creation of Dark Presences is similar to the one we detailed for Hunters, but not identical. Because stopping the hype train is impossible, on Discord users are already exchanging drafts of potential custom Dark Presences. We thought that it would be a good time to show you an official entry – Ambrose the Sorcerer! We never discussed him during the campaign, but I’m sure you’ll be immediately familiar with him…
Dark Presences are NPCs meant to be dropped in any Scenario, either as Antagonists, Allies, or Neutral actors that could either help or obstacle the Hunters.
Prima di entrare nel vivo dell’update, vi ricordo che potete raggiungerci ogni giorno sul server Discord di The World Anvil, dove vari utenti si stanno già scambiando idee sui personaggi che vogliono creare per Broken Tales.
Backerkit (quasi pronto!)
Ho speso gli ultimi giorni a configurare il pledge manager della campagna, gestito da Backerkit. Molti di voi sapranno già di cosa parlo, visto che è uno fra i più comuni, ma in sintesi presto riceverete un link ad un sondaggio che sarà usato per determinare:
In che lingua dobbiamo mandarvi il materiale
Con che nome volete essere inclusi nei credits del Libro base
Quali articoli volete aggiungere al vostro ordine (ad esempio, le stampe artistiche)
Se volete fare un upgrade al vostro pledge
Quali sono le vostre spese di spedizione in base al peso stimato del pacco
Backerkit servirà anche per distribuire le ricompense digitali
Detto questo, prima di mandare i sondaggi a tutti, faremo quello che in gergo si chiama Smoke Test. Uno Smoke Test è un test su piccola scala dei sondaggi (solo il 5% di voi li riceverà) che serve a confermare che tutto funzioni a dovere.
Come ci suggerisce la matematica, il 95% di noi NON RICEVERÀ i sondaggi adesso, quindi potete rilassarvi. Se siete fra il 5% dei fortunati, seguite il link che vi arriverà in email e compilate il sondaggio meglio che potete (c’è una guida generica in inglese qui).
Prima di mandare i sondaggi a tutti gli altri, voglio valutare come va questo test e quali domande ci vengono rivolte. A seconda della necessità, compilerò poi una guida specifica per il pledge mananager di Broken Tales.
PS: questo ve lo ripeterò altre volte – non dovrete pagare NULLA adesso per spese di spedizione e altri articoli aggiunti all’ordine (assicuratevi però di aggiungere una carta di credito valida). Se ne riparla a inizio 2022, e questo significa che sarete in grado di modificare l’ordine fino a quella data. Ci sono diverse ragioni per fare questa cosa, molte delle quali legate a questioni burocratiche, ma vi ricorderemo del pagamento quando saremo pronti a chiudere i sondaggi in modo permanente.
Oscure Presenze, un esempio
Il processo di creazione delle Oscure Presenze è simile a quello che abbiamo dettagliato per i Cacciatori, ma non identico. Siccome è impossibile fermare il treno dell’hype, su Discord alcuni utenti si stanno già scambiando work-in-progress di Oscure Presenze personalizzate.
